Environment-Friendly Line Maintenance Hanager with State-of-the-Art Technology Completed at Narita??International Airport

     ??

Nippon Cargo Airlines (NCA, Headquartered in Narita,

Japan; President: Tadamasa Ishida) has completed its

new Line maintenance hangar in the maintenance area at

Narita International Airport. Construction work was

completed on April 30, 2009, and the hangar went into

  service on June 8.
NCA's new line maintenance hangar is able to house a

Boeing 747-400 freighter. It can It can
also house a

Boeing 747-8 freighter, which is scheduled to go into

service in  the future. The hangar incorporates a range of environment-friendly measures that go well beyond the basic requirements of an aircraft hangar. In order to facilitate maintenance operations, which are often carried out during the day due to the nature of the air cargo business, the hanger has a wide range of ecological features that contribute to environmental conservation. These include a design that enhances the natural light inside the structure, a highly efficient natural ventilation system, the use of rainwater to wash fuselages and a green roof. These measures to save energy and conserve the environment will reduce annual CO2 emissions by 30% from the level of conventional hangars, down from 900 tons to 620 tons.
