Establishment of a committee to promote environmental measures

Today, when environmental issues are becoming an increasingly serious global matter, NCA has decided to establish an “Environmental Measures Promotion Committee” to tackle, as a responsible corporate citizen, such tasks as reduction of CO2 emissions and waste disposal, as well as the promotion of recycling activities. NCA is also determined to protect the “beautiful Earth” by actively taking part in various activities with civic and business groups, as well as airports.

Washing of engines with water
1．NCA is undertaking the following measures to curtail the consumption of fuel oil:
  • Use of the ground power unit (GPU) for parked aircraft
  • Washing of engines with water
  • Reduction of weight by minimizing the volume of water on board
  • Minimizing the spare fuel load
  • Selection of economical flight routes

2．Reduction of waste

As part of a company-wise “mottainai” campaign against waste, NCA is promoting reductions in the purchase volume of skids and other transport-related materials, a reduction in volume of these materials and increased reuse.

In comparison to the figure for fiscal 2006, the purchase amount in fiscal 2008 was reduced to about 96%.

3．Recycling efforts
NCA is recycling plastic cover sheets, which in the past had been treated as industrial waste after being removed from packed imported cargoes.
The total weight of materials that were recycled in fiscal 2007 came to 240 tons, accounting for about 35% of the waste disposed of at our Narita Airport facilities.
